The energy Bus
By Jon Gordon
We all know about the power of positive thinking, but sometimes it’s easy to forget. This is a short book that’s easy to read (or listen to). Coach Cal gave it to his kids at Kentucky to read the year the Wildcats won the National Championship. It’s not rocket science but is a great reminder. Best of all the kids can read/listen to it with you. If they do, you’re all sure to love the voice of the bus driver. Let us know your thoughts, Sugar! (You’ll get it once you read the book).
Creativity, INC.: Overcoming the unseen forces that stand in the way of true inspiration
By ED Catmull
If you have kids you’ve probably seen all of the PIXAR movies. If you’re like me you’ve probably enjoyed watching most of them too (even if did cry at the end of Toy Story 3, how could a bear be so mean?!). Creativity INC goes inside PIXAR studios to explain how they came up with all those great stories and explains how you can benefit from applying the same principals in your life. While this book is very enjoyable, it might be tough to keep the kids interested. But it’s worth a listen to explain how the story of Frozen evolved the next time you hear “Let It Go” blaring from the TV.

Damn are there a lot of distractions in modern society. Whether it’s our phone and social media vying for our attention, kid toys going off in the toy box, or the TV it can be so distracting. Deep work explains the importance of distraction free work, provides tips on how to get it done, and helps you leave those distractions behind you so you can focus and live in the moment. The obstacle is the way: the timeless art of turning trials into triumph
By ryan holiday
This book echoes on extreme ownership a bit, but Ryan Holiday has a way of telling stories while giving advice that makes him so easy to read. The Obstacle Is The Way delivers on it’s title, showing you how you can find the silver lining on any cloud and turn it into an advantage for you and your family. Whether it’s a burst pipe, a minor car accident, or the struggle of finding a sitter, sometimes we get too stuck on seeing the problem to appreciate the fortune that’s right in front of us. Read this book and you’ll be a salmon swimming upstream anytime there’s a negative event. Before you know it, you’ll be the one everyone asks for in tough times because you’ll help them find the positive (if you weren’t already).

The Subtle Art of not giving a F*CK: A counterintuitive approach to living a good life

We get exposed to so much with social media. We see people we know living their #bestlife with pictures of fancy vacations, new cars, or big houses and we feel like we’re not measuring up. Well it’s time to stop giving a f*ck. Okay so this one is not for the kids, but it will reshape the way you look at the “struggles” or “obstacles” you have in your life. It’s not that we should stop caring completely, but we should choose what it is we are going to care about. After all, you only have so many f*cks to give over the course of your life. Might as well use them for things you really care about.
